Love is what everyone is looking for in their lives. Love is an emotion and it is a strong emotion of affection and personal attachment. It represents compassion, kindness, and affection in our lives. Some have defined love in three different types, Eros, Philos, and Agape.Agape, being the physical type of love. Philos, the meantal side of love and Agape which is the spirtual type of love.

The word “love” has many different meanings around the world and in different languages. Love does hold two different meanings in the english language. There is impersonal love and interpersonal love.

Impersonal love is a person who loves an object, an idea, or a goal. This does not involve any type of relationship. One can “love” an activity or an object such as a car or house. There is no love between two beings.

Interpersonal love is the type of love that is between two human beings. This is a type of love that exist between lovers, family, and friends. Interpersonal love is closely connected to interpersonal relationships.

Eros Love

Also known as “erotic love”. These are feelings normally in the first stages of a romantic relationship. Some people call it the honey-mooner stage. Eros is based on very strong feeling toward one another.

Eros love is based on physical appearances and traits. This love is attached to the idea of ”love at first sight” . The type of love has the strongest weakness since it is based on “self-benefit”. It involves each or one side of the relationship to be curious as to what they can benefit from being with the other person.

This type of love is not “true love”. It is the beginning stage of what could be “true love”. Eros is mostly about feelings for the person you are in love. You may really not know the other person completely yet.

Eros is a natural romantic feeling. If a couple can make it through Eros with hardships, sacrifices, pains, and sorrows, then it could be a long meaningful relationship. It is an important part of love only because it’s natural. There is always a beginning to every relationship. Eros is the beginning, so hold tight over the speed bumps and enjoy the ride because love has a way.

Philos Love

Philos love is know as a love between two people in a friendship. These relationships tend to last longer since because of the bond of friendship before engaging into a romantic relationship. Everyone wants to marry their best friend and lover. Philos is beginning of such an idea.

Two people start out as friends, then tend to admire each other, and get involved in stronger emotions for one another. It takes time and patience but once you get there, it is a beautiful long relationship.

Philos love, unlike Eros, is based on a “give-and-take” relationship. Philos love is mutual while Eros is based on self-benefit. This type of love, like Eros, has speedbumps. It must evolve into a deeper form of love which is agape.

Agape Love

Awww, unconditional love, that is what Agape love is. It is the third and is the deepest type of love. Agape love is selfless. It is the act of giving love to another when he/she will not benefit in any way. It is the type where one can love the other in the worst moments. Being insulted, hit, and hurt still won’t completely end this love.

Agape love is know as divine since it is believed as God’s unconditional love for his children. That is why agape love is know as spiritual. A unconditional love between two partners is believed to have some very strong meaning such as fate. Something bigger than all of us.

If you look at all three types of love. Eros love is the physical tpye of love in a relationship. Philos love is the mental and long term type while agape remains as the spiritual unconditional love that everyone looks for in this life.
